Valuing life.
Well I can say that all my assignments are done and handed in. I wrote two exams today so officially two courses are complete. After our last exam today a bunch of us went out for drinks. This was a nice time to sit relax bitch about school and anything else we felt the need to complain about. Some how we came to a topic of friends and pets and stuff alike.

Several people in our class just recently got some new pets. Actually three of the girls I was out with tonight just adopted dogs in the apst few months. Although they love their dogs sometimes they wonder if they did the right thing but they do say that they would not get rid of their pet as they have now become part of the family. This brought up an interesting conversation. About how some people can find it so easy to be able to give up pets and how it is funny that those people who find it easy to give up their pets also often have a history of giving up friends. In essence they don't value their friendships.

I find it infuriating how people can be so irresponsible and selfish as to get a pet at a time when they don't have the time to dedicate to the pet or the space. How often do we see people in apartments with large dogs or even small dogs for that matter or in small houses that have no yards. These people say they will walk their dogs and provide them with the necessary exercise but really how many do? How many people can really say they walk their dog in rain sun snow and fridged cold weather. There is only one person I know of that does this. I have no doubt that people have good intentions but intending to walk your dog or intending to give it a good home is very much different than actually providing one. Animals are not disposable and too many people in our society get in over their heads. They think how much fun it would be without thinking how much work it is. How many people adopt an animal and within a few months or few years decide that they no longer want them. Apparently they aren't as cute, has become a nuisance, discover they are too much work. So these same people get rid of the animal only to turn around and get yet another animal a short time later. I find this apprehensable and dispicable that people would do this to innocent animals that have grown to love you and trust you and then you ship them off to an unknown place. They don't understand what is happening. For those people who continue to go through this cycle I urge you would you get rid of your child when they become a nuisance, or are no longer cute and cuddly, these animals should not be thought of as disposable but rather family members that are loved and cherished as such. But then what can you expect from people who think friends are also disposable, you can't expect them to value an animals life when they can't even value a friends life.
